Renter Requirements

All renters must meet the driver requirements below, plus provide a deposit on a major credit card in their name. Please bring your driver's license, insurance card, and major credit card with you to your appointment. All documents must be valid for the entire rental period; extensions will not be granted if any of these expires.

Driver Requirements

Each driver must meet the following criteria:

  • At least 21 years old; drivers 21-24 years are subject to a one-time $20.00 underage fee
  • Holds a driver's license that is valid for the entire rental period
  • Has a current auto insurance policy that is valid for the entire rental period

Additional Drivers

All additional drivers must meet the driver requirements described above, and they need to be added to the agreement as authorized drivers at the rental counter. Each must provide her or his driver's license and insurance card at that time. There is a one-time fee of $20.00 per driver. Additional drivers may not be added over the phone. The renter's spouse is included as an authorized driver, provided they meet the driver requirements.

Accepted Forms of Payment

We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. The up-front deposit must be made on a major credit card that is not a debit or check card. Any additional balance may be settled-up upon return with a major credit card, debit card, or cash.

Rental Calendar

Daily rental rates are based on a 24-hour rental day starting at the time of rental. The minimum charge is one day, plus mileage, if applicable. We provide for a 3-hour grace period if the vehicle is returned after the grace period an additional day of rental charge will accrue. At this time, we do not charge late fees or per-hour fees. Month-long rentals are renewed at 28 days.

Cancellations

We work hard to keep our fleet ready and to provide as many rentals as possible to our customers. For our regular fleet, Walser Rental does not charge cancellation fees at this time. However, we request that you cancel your reservation as soon as you know you will no longer need a vehicle, so that we can open your spot for another customer.

After-hours Return

Walser Rental vehicles can be returned to any Walser Rental Car location. If the return is after hours or any time on Sundays, be sure to replace the fuel, park in front of the service drive, and lock the doors. All service departments have after-hours key drops near the entrance; you must return the keys here. The rental agreement remains open until a Walser Rental employee checks in the vehicle upon open of business the next business day, and you will be billed until that time.

Mileage

Most rates booked through the internet are unlimited for Minnesota and any adjoining state. Walser Rental cars are available for longer distances, additional charges may apply.

Travel Limitations

Driving is restricted to the continental US. Walser Rental vehicles may not go into Canada or Mexico. Extended road trips more than 400 miles outside of Minneapolis must be pre-approved. Please advise your rental agent of your travel plans.

Fuel

All vehicles are rented with a full tank of gas, unless specifically stated on the rental agreement. The renter must refill the gas tank at a gas station close to the drop location to avoid a refueling charge. Please keep your receipt to present to the rental agent if requested. The renter may also choose to pre-pay for a full tank of gas at the time of pick-up, which is based on the vehicle's tank size. There is no credit or refund given for any fuel in the tank at the end of the rental.

Smoking and Pets

All Walser Rental vehicles are strictly non-smoking, and animals are not allowed in the vehicles. Rentals should be returned in a similar state as when rented. Violation of this policy will result in a $250 cleaning fee plus tax to cover our costs of sending out the vehicle for extensive detail.

Vehicle Damage

At this time, Walser Rental does not sell Loss Damage Waivers or Personal Accident Insurance. You must report accidents, theft, and damage as soon as is practicable. The renter and any additional drivers are absolutely liable for any loss or damage to the rental vehicle, even if someone else caused it or the cause is unknown, whether due to theft, fire, hail, flood, collision, vandalism, or any other cause, subject to limitations imposed by the law. The rental agent will note a change in condition upon check-in, and the renter will be asked to sign a report. As a courtesy will not bill your credit card for the damage repair and will work directly with your auto insurance company.

Restrictions

Walser Rental vehicles may not be used:

  • By any unauthorized drivers
  • To tow or push anything
  • To carry persons for hire
  • For any illegal activities
  • To teach anyone to drive
  • On any unpaved surface

Luxury Collection Policies

In addition to the policies outlined above, there are special rules for our luxury vehicles so that each customer can get the most out of them.

Age Limits

All drivers must be at least 25 years old.

Fuel

Please replace the fuel that you use with 91 octane gasoline. Refueling charges are $8/gallon if the vehicle is not returned with a full tank.

Miles

Mileage limits are more restricted for luxury vehicles so that we can reduce upkeep costs and keep our rates low. Rates include 100 miles/day, and each extra mile is 35 cents, unless stated otherwise. Unlimited mile packages are available on our luxury vehicles.

Reservations and Cancellations

Due to high demand, luxury vehicle reservations must be made 48 hours in advance. A credit card number is required to hold your vehicle. We require cancellation notice at least 48 hours before your scheduled pick-up time. Less than 48 hours' cancellation notices are subject to ONE FULL RENTAL DAY charge plus all applicable taxes. If you do not show up to your appointment, you will be charged a no-show fee of one full rental day OR 50% of the total amount of the reservation, whichever is greater.
